The 88th Academy Awards

The highly anticipated Academy Awards aired last night and it was a night to remember. With it’s recent backlash of #OscarsSoWhite the world was waiting and watching to see what Chris Rock would say to address the important issue of the award show’s lack of diversity with the nominees.

Rock did not disappoint with a racially charged nine minute monologue touching on the celebrities that boycotted the event, calling the Oscars “The White People’s Choice Awards” and he even brought to light the violent history black people have endured.

But beyond the elephant in the room that night there were many winners for the 2015 movie season. Spotlight, The true story of how the Boston Globe uncovered the massive scandal of child molestation and cover-up within the local Catholic Archdiocese, took home Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay. Alejandro González I?árritu won for Best Director for The Revenant. Alicia Vikander and Mark Rylance won for Best Supporting Actress and Actor for their movies, The Danish Girl and Bridge of Spies. Newcomer Brie Larson won Best Actress for her formidable role in Room and Leonardo DiCaprio finally won his Best Actor award after five previous nominations, for his arduous role in The Revenant.

Rone owned the night and proved to all the haters and doubters that he can represent his hometown Philly to the fullest.

By the end of the match it was a unanimous decision that the Prince would be crowned King as Rone slayed the crowd and defeated the ever so smooth Illmaculate. ? ? ? ? ? ?This year’s Super Bowl 50 was meant
to be an extravagant event with half time performers Coldplay, Beyoncé and
Bruno Mars teaming up to commemorate 50 years of football championships, but
beyond the acts what really mattered were the teams facing each other.

? ? ? ? ? ?Undefeated NFC champions with the
best offensive team in the NFL and new comers to the Super Bowl, the Carolina
Panthers, were geared up and ready to face the AFC Champions with the best
defensive team in the NFL and returning to the Super Bowl field, the Denver
Broncos. Before the game even started many fans predicted that the Panthers
would demolish the Broncos by their NFC season standing alone, but they were

? ? ? ? ? ?Peyton Manning, one-time Super Bowl
champ and five-time league MVP, was ready to get his second and maybe final
ring for his career. Although it was the power of the defensive team that helped
to secure the Bronco’s win, it was Manning’s cunning and encouragement that
kept the team afloat. Through every quarter the team kept a steady pace and
kept Carolina quarterback, Cam Newton, from allowing the offense to move any
further than they wanted.

? ? ? ? ? ?With a stunning 24-10 win in the
Bronco’s favour Manning was humble throughout the celebration telling reporters
he wanted to kiss his wife and kids, see his family and drink some Budweiser. Will
this be his last season in the NFL? Seems Manning hasn’t decided yet, but what
is certain is that the Carolina Panthers will return to the Super Bowl field
and maybe next time, they’ll win.
