An Electric Car Fuelled by Social Media

Just when you thought that social media has become apart of our lives, this group of high school kids from Kansas City take it further!

MINDDRIVE’s students took on old Volkswagen Karmann Ghia and turned it into an electric car fuelled by social media. Social interactions like tweets, Facebook posts, YouTube view turn into wattages that keeps the power going in the car.

MINDDRIVE is an educational program that uses experiential methods to teach at-risk urban high school teens through hands-on work in its automotive design and contemporary communication classes. The automotive class builds prototype ultra-high-efficiency alternative fuel plug-in electric vehicles designed to drive efficiently. The communications class teaches students how to write, present, photograph, video, construct and manage web pages and use social media channels.

Have a Jelly Good Weekend!

It’s Friday and the VOCAB team is ready for the Victoria Day long weekend! We decided to kick off this long weekend with some doughnuts, but these aren’t just any doughnuts!

Jelly Modern Doughnuts was nice enough to send 16 delicious gourmet doughnuts to the VOCAB Communications office. Originally from Calgary, Alberta, this Canadian bakery cafe is opening up a second location in Toronto.

To get the buzz going about their Toronto location, Jelly Modern used their Facebook page and ask their fans if they wanted to deliver a box of fresh doughnuts to someone in Toronto for free.

“Do you have someone in downtown Toronto that you’d like to send doughnuts to? Share this post and let us know in the comments who it is, and we’ll do some for FREE!” –?Jelly Modern Doughnuts

All you had to do was reply to their post (above) with a full Toronto address and boom, doughnuts are served.

Looking at this in a PR perspective, this was such a smart move for Jelly Modern to use social media and get noticed by their Toronto customers. People actually get to try their products instead of just looking at Facebook pictures and wonder what it takes like.

Jelly Modern Doughnuts will be opening their Toronto location on 376 College Street.

Introducing VOCAB @tusharbharadia

Allow me to introduce myself! My name is Tushar Bharadia (@tusharbharadia) and I am a current post-grad corporate communications & public relations (CCPR) student at Toronto’s Centennial College.?I started my own music blog called Heroin Tracks?in 2010 which focuses on the latest and hottest in hip-hop and R&B.?The way I made my website stand out from the rest was with my Heroin Tracks: Get To Know interviews which features hidden talents.?I have also worked with?Roots Canada?by being apart of their digital marketing team.?I engaged with thousands of fans and customers on Roots Canada’s social media accounts.

I joined VOCAB Communications as an intern because I wanted to take the new skills that I’ve learned from CCPR and apply it to a real life agency. With VOCAB’s clients ranging from lifestyle, business, entertainment, and not-for-profit, I can get the proper experience and exposure to help me excel in the PR world. I hope to improve in my writing, help plan and execute events, and build relationships with the media.

For the next two months, I will be blogging, tweeting, facebooking about PR and social media on VOCAB’s Tumblr and social media accounts. If you’re lucky, you might see me at a VOCAB event with @MissVOCAB ??
